Does anyone know how much a general dental check up is under the NHS?

Answer:
free
拢12 if employed free to unemployed and the over 60 and under 18
19.50
its not free, unless you're under 16 or have a valid nhs exemption certificate. ie if you get tax credits or pension or income support etc. otherwise its about 16 quid.
I paid 拢15 two weeks ago for a check up from a NHS Dental Pratice.
It's around 拢16. That's the cheapest option, but it does not include any ongoing treatment. It should include a polish though. There are three charge bands for general treatment - try calling your local PALS service for more information about that, the details of which should be on the NHS direct website:
http://www.nhs.uk/servicedirectories/pag... Type in a search for 'PALS' on the site and you'll be able to find your local one. It might be under, for example, 'Knowsley PCT PALS', PCT means Patient Care Trust - sorry if you already know that, but some people don't, so just to be 100% clear. There will be a phone number or contact details for your local service, and you'll be able to talk to someone about the charges in more detail.
Dental charges are split up into 3 bands拢15.50 鈥?For check ups, x-rays, scale and polish.拢42.40 鈥?For additianal treatment such as fillings and extractions.

拢189.00 鈥?crowns, dentures, bridges
I think it varies from dentist to dentist. My dentist in London charges 拢15.50 for a check-up and clean.
Hey BudI know that the charges for NHS dental treatment were amended as 1 April 2007, and if i'm not mistaken there were three charges expressed which were: 拢15:50 拢42:40 and 拢189 and these charges are dependant upon the level of after treatment.
I hope this is of some use as i read this info about 6 weeks ago and i am quoting those new costs from recollection.
went to a dentist in south east kent a week ago and he charged me 拢15 just to have a look and tell me everything was ok 5 minutes work for 拢15 not a bad job is it .lol
The charges are a percentage of the dentists charge for any work or check up, if they are still using the old system, about 20% of their charge, normally 拢12-拢18. The new system that came in last April would be 拢15.50 which includes some extra treatment. But I am not sure if all dentists will be signed up to the new agreement, so check first. If you are in receipt of benefit or family tax credit you should get free treatment from any NHS dentists. The link below is the new charges PDF file.
Hope this helps
Andy
I have just payed 15pounds 90 pence in blackpool
拢15.90 For a standard nhs check up, this includes xrays and cleaning-which is done at the dentist's discretion.
拢43.60 For any fillings-amalgam on the nhs, this fee also includes the above fee.
拢194 For crowns/dentures, again this fee includes both the above fees.
These are the new nhs charges since 1st april 07!
i have just paid 拢15.90, i think it depends what dentist you see.
From April 06 the NHS Dental check up became free to all - same goes for an eye test
between 拢13 and 拢20 I understand
