Do i need a root canal?

i got a small cavity drilled and filled about a month ago it was small he didnt even use any numbing stuff
just sat down a drilled
but now a month later i have sensitivity to hot and cold on that tooth
do i need a root canal? im 15 years old
and if i do
do root canals hurt as bad as i here they do?

You need to see a dentist-a new one. You may have an infection and not need a root canal, but a dentist is the one who knows best.Call now. This is an emergency! You probably need antibiotics this minute.

Your dentist needs to take an xray of the tooth and see if the damage has gone to the root. Thats the only sure way to know. But u need to make an appointment ASAP to prevent one if u dont need one, YET. Root canals can be painful.. but u will get it numbed while he works. Its a kinda long procedure compared to everything else, and you will need a crown after the root canal is finished. (not the same day) The good news is you will no longer have pain after the root is removed :) Just sore gums.

depends on how deep the cavity was. if it was deep you will have some sensitivity for awhile, hot and cold. give it some more time, it can take up to 2 to 3 months. if it still hurts, go back to your DDS it might need a pulp cap then a root canal. good luck and feel better.

Your best bet is to take great care of your teeth. However, to answer your question, I would avoid a root canal at all costs. They are extremely prone to infection, and it is suggested, if not proven, that they contribute to pancreatic cancer. It is suggested that gum disease leads to heart disease as well. As far as hot and cold sensitivity, you should probably consult your dentist and several others about this predicament.

Your dentist should know if you would need a root canal or not. I had a root canal about a month ago on my back molar. They don't hurt at all. The only part that was sucked was you had to keep your mouth open for quite awhile. Other than that it was no big deal. It didn't even hurt afterwords...that's because you have no root!

See a different dentist. It's mandatory for them to inject your gum surrounding the tooth with Lidocaine or at least use a topical ointment to numb that area.When I worked with a dentist back in 1989, she told a few patients that if your tooth root is exposed and is very sensitive to heat and cold, you need a root canal. Root canals sting only for a little bit when the dentist injects that area. It's best to use your music headphones to channel out the noise of the drilling and to breathe through your nose at all times, so you will not have a gag reflex.

Anytime you grind on a part of your body with a drill(including teeth) it'll bug you for a bit.You only need a root canal if the pulp of you tooth was somehow infected. If the cavity was drilled and filled without pain medication then that's because your pulp/nerve was never compromised by the cavity and the dentist didn't have to worry about pain.My teeth are sensitive to cold for week after just a cleaning(all the scraping causes it).Root canal hurts, but not as bad as the infection that usually precedes them.

Root canals, from what I understand, are the result of decay within a given tooth that effect the nerve. In my case, I had a cavity that was really deep and even after I had a filling put in it continued to decay almost all the way to the jaw bone.The explanation that I got from the dentist is that the nerve of my tooth had died and it needed to be removed as well as the decay and infection inside of my tooth.Basically what he did was go inside my tooth, take all of the decay out, clean the four canals of my tooth, made a mold of my real tooth and then put a temporary cap back in my tooth. After a couple of weeks the permanent cap arrived in his office and he simply took off the temporary and replaced it with the permanent cap.As far as the operation itself, I was given a local anestetic and I was awake through the whole thing. I felt no pain at all and I even drove home from the dentist's office.I've had two root canal operations, one without dental insurance and one with it, and it can be very expensive. When I had it done without insurance the whole procedure, including the permanent cap, cost about $1,300. Believe me it was not fun to have to pay that but you need to have this operation done.If you wait too long the tooth can become infected, like mine did, and it can spread to other parts of your body and cause serious complications. I waited about two and a half years before I finally had my second root canal done.

The quality of a root canal has to do with the dentist, his equipment, and his specialty. Root canals require crowns, so you’re looking at a minimum of $1,000 in treatment. MINIMUM. However, if it’s a front tooth, you’re pretty safe. If it’s a back tooth or decayed tooth then you should see a specialist and not just your regular dentist.
