If your tooth is not infected when you go in for the appointment, generally root canals are not that bad. They are able to get you numb enough when no infection is there. Take some headphones and player with your favorite music, wear your darkest sunglasses if you'd like. Close your eyes and just let them do their stuff. Many of my patients have said it was a lot easier than they thought it would be, it was just like a long filling appointment. Take some anti inflammatory meds. prior to the appointment. Tell your dentist you did. This will help the medication already be in your system. You will have soreness from both the injections and the pressures applied to the tooth. You will need to take more later too, but this way it is there if the numbness wears off quickly. You'll be fine...
I had a root canal it was almost painless , since the pulp in my tooth had decayed away. Now I have no problem with my tooth.
My sister has had several. Note repeat root canals. So they must be not so bad! You can do it!
I've had 2 root canals and the first one I had went very well. I was probably like 12 and I've always been afraid of the dentist but it was totally painless. I got 1 quick shot of novocaine and the rest of the time I just kind of sat there and watched a movie will the dentist poked at my tooth. I didn't think it was even as bad as a filling because there was less drilling and grinding and stuff. The only thing is that it takes a really long time.
I have a wonderful endodontist who is very caring and gentle. I have had six root canals and they have all been just fine. They numb you enough to where you don't feel anything but the pressure their putting on you when they drill and so forth. I just close my eyes and think of something else, and pretty soon it's all over.Good luck!
Sorry, But most fail and you have to have the tooth removed.
